Two Louisiana Men charged with cheating in a local card room in order to hit the bad beat jackpot.
The New Orleans Advocate reported, that one of the perpetrators, 66-year-old poker dealer, Ashley Solomon turned himself in, while his partner, 51-year-old Dale Foret was arrested by the police.
According to the report by the Louisiana State Police, Solomon performed two “false shuffles” which made it possible for Foret to get the hand which qualified for the bad beat jackpot.
Even though the authorities didn’t disclose the exact venue, sources close to the incident said that the event took place at the Boomtown Casino in New Orleans.
However, the jackpot was not paid out immediately, because the casino staff noticed that something might have been going on. They started reviewing the hand. After this, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations Gaming Enforcement Division started investigating the case on January 19th after they had been informed by the casino.
The two conmen were charged with conspiracy to commit theft over $25,000 and attempted theft over $25,000.
According to the payout structure of the Boomtown Casino, had it been a successful attempt, the two swindlers would’ve received a prize between $66,000 and $83,000.
But they won’t put a hand on any of that and the bad beat jackpot is still up for grabs, as the police said: “The jackpot will remain available for future players who win at Texas hold’em under proper and approved rules of play.”
